Catching chum on spinners

Had a couple hits on spinners today mid-river, and foul hooked and released this one.

Also landed this small trout/smolt. Kinda of shocked it took this #5 spinner!

Holiday fishing on the Puyallup

Finally.... my brother landed this nice chum this morning.
I had two on, -- lost them both.

I actually had a swivel break on me / right in half

Went down for a couple hours on saturday, and only saw one roller. Usually the river is loaded with chum right now.

I went down today to see how the netting was going, and it was super slow! I heard one of the guys saying the purse seiners in commencement bay took in 230,000 of the projected 310,000 fish.....needless to say he was pretty upset.

I haven't been able to find much information online about this. Do the purse seiners fish Commencement Bay every year for chum?

The chum are starting to show

Fished the lower river for about 45 minutes this morning. Saw two chum come almost completely out of the water, so they are definitely starting to show up.

Couldn't get any biters, and then the wind started up enough to call it a morning.

Gearing up for chum salmon

So the chum are finally in. Saw myself, and heard reports of some rollers in the lower river, and I'm looking forward to getting into some over the next month.

I'm looking for tips on what type of setup / water to look for.

Up till this point I've been catching chum in 18 inches to 3 feet of water,  doing the "long leader" thing. I'd really like to catch them with a bobber and jig, but i'm struggling with using a bobber/jig setup in that shallow of water.

Has anyone else had success in this shallow of water?

If so, can you explain what type of water, and setup you're using? Also, has anyone had chum follow a spinner?
