Mornings seem best

From most reports on the Fishing Forum, and personal experience, it seems the early mornings have been producing more fish than the evenings. All the action I've heard about so far has been on the lower river, and this seems right according to my journals.

A word of caution about parking at the soccer fields! Cars are being towed that are on the grass field, or in the middle of the culdesac right next to River Road, so BE CAREFUL.

Thanks fishing4fun for the pic.

Kings and silvers!

This morning was pretty hot in the lower river. Lot's of jacks, the occasional king, and a couple of the A-run silvers.
Seeming like sunrise, and sunset have been the most productive times on these hot -sunny days.

Check out some of the reports, and catches of the day on the new forum.

Puyallup River Fishing Forum

The fishing forum is up!

Thanks for the suggestions, and I hope the forum makes it easier for all.

SIlver Sunrise!

Lots of jack silvers being landed this morning down at the SOCCER FIELDS.
Also a couple of the "first" a-run silvers (5-7 lbs), and a 15lb. king!

I lost the one silver I had on, but it was nice seeing that many fish landed. Brightly colored corkies and yarn seemed to be the trick this morning.

Good luck fishing today.

Mixed reports...and netting begins this weekend

Still pretty mixed reports this week. I've seen a couple Jacks pulled in, and one King, but not a lot of action yet at all.

Netting begins this Sunday, so the lower half of the river (below Freeman Rd.) will be closed to fishing. The netting is allowed from the white river, all the way to the mouth. So even if you're at 5th st., Freddy's, or somewhere in that vicinity, the boats probably will be coming thru.

Anytime you see CLOSED on the (when will fish arrive page), it's only in reference to the lower half of the river. It's only six days of closures, and the last one is Sept 11th.

Good luck to everyone... hopefully more fish will show up by the weekend!

Beautiful Scenery, but that's it!

Tried down by the soccer fields this evening.....pretty packed, but not much action at all.
I did see one small king landed in a couple hours (about 50-75 guys).

Is everyone using 8-10 ft. leaders? I was using an 18-24 inch leader, and getting funny looks. No one was catching anything, so I'm not sure who's right, but the guy next to me told me this is a "flossin" river, and I just told him I was doing an experiment....

(i thought the muddier the water, the shorter the leader needed)

This is my first year trying for KINGS, and I call myself the "IGNORANT" fisherman for a reason :), so let me know if I'm crazy. --- I JUST WANT A FISH!

The "non" report

Not much to report!
Went down behind Freddy's to try out plunking for the first time. Tried to get in the shaded areas, because the sun was blazing hot, but didn't have much luck. I was using kwikfish, and hook a trout about the same size as the lure :)

Any way, good to get back on the river. Looking forward to the next couple weekends, because according to my journals, they should be pretty good for kings.

Plunking the Puyallup River

Looking for some help here!

I'm in my first year of PLUNKING, and I'm getting my gear setup. I'm doing this, so I can always have a line in the water, even when I'm teaching my son to cast, etc. I can also see it being beneficial on longer fishing trips when a break is in order, and I'd still like to have a line in the water. I do understand, that plunking is not too popular on the Puyallup, and it has to be done fairly out of the way from the lines of fishermen that can form during the peak of a run....I'll stay out of the way :-)

So this is the setup I'm thinking of going with, after a couple trips to Sportco, and watching videos online. I'm freezing the tuna wraps in packs of four, so I can do most of the messy work at home.

Any tips are greatly appreciated --

Thanks, and good luck fishing this week.

Couple reports of Kings

Hearing about a couple reports of kings being caught down by safeway, and just up from freeman road.
Fishing is still extremely slow, but I think that's pretty normal for opening week.

I remember things didn't really heat up until the middle of August last year (of course the pinks helped!)

Safety First -

This e-mail was sent to me by a reader of the blog......and I offered to post it. -- Please be safe while fish is that important.

My nephew Joshua McNamara (28 years old) was inner tubing on July 8th and got caught in a current and is presumed drowned. We are still at the recovery stage for his body. Our family wants you to be advised and aware on your fishing trips. Joshua was last seen at the 128th Str McMillan bridge area. the next mile and a half is where we think he may be stuck. If you see anything like a blue with yellow inner tube, or either black and orange shorts or khaki shorts please call 911.
You may see flyers on trees along the banks with yellow ribbons. Please take note of the flyer with Details.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or information.

we pray that he may be found soon. The thought of someone stumbling upon him could have nightmares the rest of their life is something that we don't want to have happen.

Above all our family want to turn this tragedy into an educational tool for river safety and please wear your lifejacket. A simple life jacket would have saved his life. So be real careful out there all you fishing people and have a great season!
