Puyallup River YouTube Channel

I'm planning on taking videos of different locations on the Puyallup where I fish, with how to read the water in those locations. Also, more how to video's with setting up, and of course, more videos of fish being landed! Fish ON!!!!!

The Pinks are thick, and Silvers are in

The reason for the closure on Sunday and Monday was for netting silvers. They're starting to show up in good numbers.
As far as pinks go, they are pretty thick right now, and will be for the next three weeks at least.
It seems, the smaller profiles, regardless of color are working best, as far as pinks, and silvers go.
Having two inches of yarn on a high pressure system spooks the fish, so a small corkie, maybe black yarn, and a little scent is very productive right now.
The best reports are still in the lower portions of the river, but the upper portions should be picking up here this week.

Good luck, and I'll post your reports and pics!

Puyallup River King, and Silver Salmon

This morning was good fishing down on the Puyallup. Lots of pinks....I was catching & releasing. My friend hooked a nice silver....the only one I saw caught while I was down there, but they're on their way in.

My brother hooked his second king of the year.....last one got off right at the bank. He landed this one but we had to let it go!!!
It's still in there for someone else...... good luck.

Silver, or Pink?

A very common mistake, is thinking a larger size pink is a silver. This video, shows a sure fire way to know wether it's a pink or a silver.
Went down this afternoon for a quick trip, and landed this one out of three I had on.
If you're not having success fishing on the Puyallup right now, look for someone with fish, or someone who keeps hooking up, and ask questions. Most people are very willing to help. I've gotten lots of tips already this year that have really helped.

Mixed reports

Reports have been mixed as of late. The rain on Monday night caused the river to rise by about a half foot. This can really put salmon off the bite while the river is rising.
Also, the tides affect the fishing in the lower portions quite a bit. I hear some people say "fish the incoming tides" and others say "fish the outgoing tides." Whatever you do, if you're trying to time your trips with the tides, fish the big tides, with around an 8 ft difference.
Although, while the pinks are running, there are fish all over the place.

Any thoughts? I hope this helps

Fun sunday afternoon fishing

Went down to the river, about eight miles up from the mouth, and had some fun. Lot's of pinks running, with the occasional king hooked, but I didn't see any landed.
These pink were landed by me & my brother's in a couple hour period.....lots more hooked, and lost while pulling onto the bank...oh well....
The largest was six pounds.

Fishing is good -- but it'll get better

This report off another website sums things up very nicely.....so nicely, i thought I'd re-post it.

Alright, here's as honest and genuine report as I can give for those of you waiting for the right time to hit the Puyallup. Succinctly, it's not on yet. Pinks are there, but not in droves like most of us are waiting for. My group of 5 people had 2 fish landed, and two fish lost in about 3 hours of fishing--so it's just starting. If you are just looking for a nice day of R&R, then by all means, your chances aren't teriible of getting a fish. All these reports of limits in a half hour are either from lucky guys who found their lines in a school, or pure exaggerations. I will tell you for the majority of fishermen out there, limits of fish are by far the exception, not the rule. My fishing journals from past years seem to point to Aug 22nd as the typical date for hot fishing to start...be patient.

Pinks are running!

Hearing mixed reports of fishing today, but the pinks are in the river. If you're having trouble, find someone who's catching, and ask questions. Most people are willing to help.

Caught this 5.5 lb pink down there this evening a little up river from Fred Meyer.

Opening day

The Puyallup river is opened as of today, from the 11th st. bridge up.
Reports have still been a little mixed, but the fish are defiantly in there if you know what you're doing.
This weekend should be the beginning of limits for everyone.

Good luck

What smoker do you recommend?

Smoke 'em if ya caught 'em

Looking to buy a good smoker for all these pinks coming into the river. Any recommendations for a specific smoker? I'd like to be able to fit a good amount of fish in at a time.

Also, are there any killer recipes anyone can recommend?

Drift fishing the Puyallup for pinks

I made this video because I was being asked specific questions about how to setup a rig for the Puyallup. For the experienced fisherman, this might be a waste of time, but you might be surprised at some little tip that might help.

This video show's me tying up a complete rig from start to finish.

Good time fishing pinks

Went down to 5th st. bridge this afternoon & had some success. Not a whole bunch being caught, but a couple good bites, and my brother pulled in this nice pink.
I know he hooked the fish, but I think he got hooked on fishing.
The fish are on their way!!!

Made a new page for reports to be posted. Puyallup river realtime fishing report -- still in the beginning stages, but it's getting there.

New page for reports

Hearing such good reports, I think I'm gonna have to hit the river a little earlier than I thought I would. I'll post this evening & let you know how it went.

Only upper portion is opened

Hearing reports of fishing in the lower portions of the Puyallup.
Everything below freeman road is closed until the sixteenth.

I'm hearing about spurts here and there of some pretty good fishing in the upper portions.....nothing like it'll be here in about a 9 days, but it think I might give it a shot here tomorrow evening if I can get off work early.

Fish ON!!!!!

Puyallup river fishing report - August 1st - 8th

The fishing has been predictably slow in the Puyallup since it opened on the first. The fifth st. Bridge has been turning out the best results, with a couple kings, and pinks.

Wait until the last week in August, and there will be so many pinks you can't help but catch one.

Puyallup River is Opened

The Puyallup River opened August 1st above Freeman road.
The pinks should start showing up in great numbers about august 23rd. Everything is going to be a bout a week later (starting & ending) than it was in 2009, so there's no rush to get on the river yet. If you read other reports, most people are going "casting" not "fishing."
I generally fish the lower portions of the Puyallup, so I'll be waiting till after the 16th.
